'DRQ 93.1 fm, Lisa Lisa and Jethro's Place UPDATE
We extend our gratitude and thanks to ‘DRQ for helping us save lives. Especially, Alex Tear, the programming director who was known to foster a shelter dog in an emergency and Julie Law the promotions director for making our Find a Furry Friend in Ferndale events a success. We cannot begin to express our gratitude to Lisa Lisa for her tireless work on behalf of homeless animals. Every day she is on the air, she pleads and pitches to save the lives of shelter dogs. There isn’t another station in Detroit that has given so much airtime to our cause. The success of the effort was felt all the way to Standish Michigan, where the vast majority of Arenac County Animal Control Shelter’s adoptions came from Lisa Lisa’s show. We wish the entire staff only the best for their future and know that each of them will go on to great things.
We are reassessing our options and quite frankly will be adversely impacted by ‘DRQ’s demise. Most of our website traffic, donations and adopters came from ‘DRQ. While a big multi million-dollar organization could carry on with little impact, for a tiny organization, this is a significant mountain to climb. Our Ferndale events will be on hold while we take a hard look at our options. We genuinely believe that our work is valuable, that promoting cooperation between organizations is a key to ending the killing of homeless pets. We will need the help of our supporters now, more than ever before, if we are to continue.
How you can help:
Link to our adopt a senior pet page http://www.jethrosplace.org/seniors.htm if you or your company have a website. Older pets are adoptable, but only if someone knows they are at a shelter or in a rescue. Our webpage lists senior dogs and cats for rescues across Michigan. If even one potential adopter is reached through your site link, it is worth the effort.
Renew your Jethro’s Place membership or donate to help us keep helping animals. Frankly, we’ve always teetered on the brink of financial disaster, but this may push us over the edge. If you haven’t signed up for a membership, please do quickly. It’s only $25 a year and it’s the main way we support ourselves. Sign up for memberships through this link: http://www.jethrosplace.org/memberships.htm. To donate, visit http://www.jethrosplace.org/donations.htm We’d like to thank you in advance for your support in our time of need.
Finally, if you want to acknowledge the great work Lisa Lisa has done for homeless pets, please drop her a note to info@jethrosplace.org and we’ll make certain she gets it. We know she’ll be back on the air soon, working for a station that recognizes not only her talent, but her compassion and ability to make a positive impact in the community. We look forward to getting the Doggie Diva back on the air and wish her only the best.
